Claude Design allows you to create polished visual materials with Claude. You describe what you want, attach your documents (a note, an Excel spreadsheet, a screenshot), and Claude produces an initial draft on a template. You then refine it through conversation, by commenting on specific elements, or by directly editing the page. The result can be exported as a PDF, PowerPoint, Google Slides, or HTML page.
The tool is powerful, but two things make the difference between a nice generic page and a usable document for a business: a brand style guide established once and for all for the organization, and a precise brief. This kit addresses both and provides 20 briefs that cover the essential materials for a team.
1. Claude Design: What has changed in 2026
| Date | What has changed |
|---|---|
| April 17, 2026 | Anthropic Labs launches Claude Design in research preview, with the Claude Opus 4.7 model, on a dedicated address. |
| September 16, 2026 | Claude Design becomes usable in any Claude conversation, in the Artifacts tab and in Claude Code, at the same time as Claude Slides and Claude Docs. |
| October 15th 2026 | Default activation announced on Enterprise plans; owners could activate it earlier. |
| 14th December 2026 | Announced closure of the standalone version claude.ai/design: the design systems created there must be migrated before this date. |
Claude Design produces presentations and decks, communication materials (one-pagers, posters, social media visuals, event pages), screen mockups and interactive prototypes, and explorations of multiple visual approaches side-by-side. It's neither a design studio nor a replacement for your layout tool: it's an accelerator for initial versions, which are reviewed and approved like any other document.
2. Who can use it?
| Flat rate | Claude Design | Organizational design system |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Available from September 16, 2026, within quota limits | Not mentioned by Anthropic |
| Pro and Max | Available, enabled by default | Available (beta) |
| Team | Available, enabled by default | Configured once, shared with all members |
| Enterprise | Activated by an owner (organization settings, Artifacts section) | Enabled by an owner; publication restricted to certain users |
Claude Design uses the same quota as the rest of Claude, including Claude Code: there is no separate allocation. It can be accessed from a conversation (Design output type), from the Artifacts tab (Design templates), from Claude Code (command /design), or from the mobile application for creation and viewing.
3. Install your organization's design system
- Gather the sources Your website, two or three successful presentations, the style guide in PDF format, logos, and typography. Anthropic recommends real-world examples rather than specifications alone.
- Ask Claude to build the design system from a conversation, by attaching these files; a product team can go through Claude Code and the /design-sync command to read its components.
- Examine the result : palette, typography, components, layouts; add or replace sources if the brand is not correctly entered.
- Testing on a real substrate, a one-pager for example, before generalizing.
- Publish so that new projects use it by default, and reserve publication for the brand manager.
The "My design system" tab of the binder lists the 18 elements to prepare (colors, typography, logo rules, tone, components, prohibitions, accessibility) and provides the starting prompt.
4. The five-line brief method
| Line | Question to ask oneself | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Deliverable | What, and in what format? | A one-page A4 portrait |
| 2. Objective | What effect will this have on the reader? | Encouraging managers to register |
| 3. contents | What information, and in what order? | The problem, three benefits, the process, the registration |
| 4. Shape | What style, what charter? | Simple, lots of white, applies our design system |
| 5. Constraints | What is prohibited or mandatory | Legible printed in black and white, no made-up numbers |
Three reflexes complete the method: attach the material rather than summarize it, ask for two or three variants to compare, and demand traceability of the figures ("use only the figures from the attached document and list them with their page").
5. The 20 briefs in the kit
| Family | Briefs |
|---|---|
| Communication and marketing | One-page offer, webinar landing page, LinkedIn carousel of six visuals, key figures infographic, internal newsletter mockup, A3 event poster |
| Presentations and piloting | Executive committee deck in ten slides, presentation of an internal survey, project launch kit, monthly visual dashboard |
| HR and training | Welcome booklet, one-page teaching guide, visual organizational chart |
| Product and digital | Screen mockup of a business application, clickable prototype of a user journey, redesign of an existing page: three visual approaches for a new service |
| Sales, legal and finance | Business proposal layout, comparison sheet, visual roadmap |
Each brief specifies its target audience, required attachments, recommended export format, level of detail, and key points to consider before distribution. Here is one example, as it appears in the kit:
| Brief 7. Executive Committee Deck (10 slides) |
|---|
| Create a ten-slide presentation based on the attached memo for the [date] steering committee meeting. Objective: to reach a decision on [topic]. Structure: 1. Title, 2. Expected decision, 3. Context in three points, 4 and 5. Compared options, 6. Key figures (graph), 7. Risks, 8. Recommendation, 9. Timeline, 10. Decision to be made. Format: one idea per slide, titles in sentence form, apply our design system. Constraints: use only the figures from the memo. |
6. Exporting and regulating usage
A design is private by default; you then choose who can view, comment on, or modify it. It can be exported as a PDF, PowerPoint, Google Slides, a standalone HTML page, or an archive, sent to other tools (Canva in particular), and sent to Claude Code to become actual code. Anthropic does point out some limitations: no version history and unreliable simultaneous editing by multiple users.
The kit lays out six simple rules: a single published design system, managed by the communications team; only documents whose sharing is authorized and dummy data in mockups; figures always taken from an attached document and verified; no third-party logos or visuals without authorization; a systematic accessibility review; and human validation before any distribution. The binder's checklist summarizes these points in fifteen checks.
7. What the kit contains
The Word document has 16 pages in 8 chapters: Claude Design in two minutes; accessing it according to your subscription; installing your design system; the five-line brief method; iterating, sharing, exporting; the 20 ready-to-use briefs; framing use in business; deploying in 30 days; the sources.
The Excel workbook "Claude Design Kit Tools" contains five tools: the filterable catalog of 20 briefs with a copy column; the 18-element design system template, with its starting prompt; the fifteen-point pre-release checklist, which indicates whether the medium is ready; the four-week pilot plan with progress tracking; the time saved measurement grid, which calculates the saving per medium and the total in hours.

8. Frequently Asked Questions
What is Claude Design?
This is Claude's role, which produces visual materials: presentations, one-pagers, posters, social media visuals, screen mockups, and interactive prototypes. Launched by Anthropic Labs on April 17, 2026, it has been integrated into all Claude conversations since September 16, 2026.
Is Claude Design free?
Claude Design is available on all Claude plans, including Free, since September 16, 2026. It uses the same quota as the rest of Claude: large projects reach the limit of the free plan faster.
How to access Claude Design?
In a Claude conversation, choose the Design output type or simply request a visual. You can also start from a Design template in the Artifacts tab, or use the /design command in Claude Code. On Enterprise, an organization owner must have enabled this.
What is a design system in Claude Design?
This is your organization's style guide as Claude understands it: colors, fonts, logos, components, and templates. Once published, it automatically applies to new projects. On Team and Enterprise, it is configured once for all members.
Can it be exported to PowerPoint?
Yes. A design can be exported as a PDF, PowerPoint (PPTX), Google Slides, a standalone HTML page, or a .zip archive. It can also be sent to other tools, such as Canva, or forwarded to Claude Code.
What's the difference with Claude Slides?
Claude Slides, launched the same day, offers a dedicated starting point for presentations. Claude Design covers all visual media, from presentations to screen mockups, on a template that can be directly modified. The briefs in the kit work in both.
What's happening with claude.ai/design?
Anthropic has announced the closure of the standalone version on December 14, 2026. Design systems created there must be migrated to Claude before this date, from the Design tab.
