Cerema: an acculturation journey to generative AI, from the management committee to practice
Between February 2024 and early 2025, NextStart facilitated a comprehensive onboarding program for Cerema, the public expert institution for ecological transition and territorial cohesion. This program included an introductory webinar decided upon by the management committee, three in-depth webinars on the core skills of Writing, Analyzing, and Transforming, a follow-up session, and a half-day in-person practical application workshop. This collaboration extends a relationship initiated in 2022 focused on facilitation.
The starting point: a request from management, a tight schedule
Cerema supports the French government and local authorities on climate, mobility, infrastructure, and land-use planning. In early January 2024, the strategy and communications department contacted NextStart to train its teams in generative AI. A month later, the first webinar took place: the schedule, including time slots and the list of participants, had been finalized by the management committee.
The entry point: a management team that first forms its own identity. The introductory webinar is decided upon by the Executive Committee and involves the strategy and communications management team, before being extended to the other teams.
The system: from overview to practice
A progressive four-stage course, mostly remote, with a final in-person practical application.
A discovery webinar
In February 2024, an overview of generative AI and its impact on professions, with live demonstrations, for management and strategy and communication teams.
Three Superpower Webinars
In spring 2024, a more in-depth, capability-by-capability approach: Write, Analyze, Transform. Each webinar alternates between business use cases and live demonstrations of prompts.
A retake session
At the end of 2024, a Transformer session reserved for participants of the course, to consolidate acquired knowledge and integrate the evolution of tools in the meantime.
A half-day of practical application
Early 2025, a face-to-face session focused on manipulation: individual practical workshops, quick job presentations, and a final reflection time on the evolution of Cerema's professions.
The results
Five webinars and a half-day in-person session, from the initial overview to individual practice on the institution's cases.
From the initial contact by management in early January 2024 to the first webinar in February, including arbitration in the management committee.
Practice time, impactful and easy-to-remember prompts, awareness of the importance of contextualization: feedback primarily praises the manipulation.
The practical session concludes with a period of reflection on the evolution of Cerema's professions, spontaneously cited by participants as a strong point.
