Word and PowerPoint handle a large portion of organizations' written output: notes, reports, minutes, proposals, committee materials. Copilot primarily changes the starting point: you no longer begin with a blank page, but with a first draft built from your own documents.
This initial draft is only valuable if it remains faithful to the source material and adheres to the guidelines. This kit addresses both of these requirements: the methodology to ensure Copilot doesn't invent new elements, and the configuration to ensure it respects your visual identity.
1. What Copilot does in Word and PowerPoint
| Application | What Copilot can do | Results of our tests |
|---|---|---|
| Word | Summarize, rewrite a section, transform a list into a table, write a section based on existing content | Four successful requests, accurate figures, one missing interpretation of the text to correct |
| Word | Write a first draft using the files cited with the / key | Quality related to the sources provided |
| Power point | Create a presentation from a document, add a slide, write the speaker's notes | Six slides faithful to the source notes, titles rewritten for review. |
As of April 15, 2026, in organizations with more than 2,000 users, the Copilot suite is no longer offered in Word and PowerPoint to unlicensed accounts. Microsoft 365 Copilot license ("Copilot Premium"): €26,00 excluding VAT per user per month, list price with annual commitment.
2. Write based on your sources
An effective writing brief specifies five elements: the deliverable and its length, the reader, the sources cited with the / key, the constraint, and the expected structure. One rule avoids most errors: add "based solely on [source]". The "Writing Brief" tab of the workbook compiles these five elements into a ready-to-paste brief.
Two flaws are apparent from the outset: the interpretations added by Copilot in a summary, and the inserted text marked in a language other than French, which causes correct words to be underlined.
3. From document to presentation
- Start with a structured document: titles, key figures, recommendation.
- Attach the source with + then “Add working content”, and choose the brand with “Select a brand”.
- Specify audience, duration, number of slides and outline.
- Answering Copilot's questions about style or source.
- Review each slide: figures, assumed titles, speaker's notes.
A new conversation does not keep the attached file: attach the document to each conversation, especially for the speaker's notes.
4. Enforce the charter
Without a business model, Copilot applies its own style. Copilot first uses the model's example slides, then its structure and layout. The communications team therefore prepares:
- a template created in PowerPoint for Windows or Mac, with various example slides;
- reserved spaces rather than text boxes, defined theme colours and fonts;
- a brand kit in the Microsoft Copilot application, where the .pptx or .potx template is uploaded;
- validated brand images.
The "Brand Model Checklist" tab summarizes these requirements in 15 points.
5. 16 use cases per profession
| job | Application | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Board | Word | One-page decision note based on an analysis |
| Legal | Word | Contract summary in table format, with each piece of information item listed. |
| Sales | Power point | Client proposal based on a Word document |
| Training | Power point | Support materials with exercises and facilitator's notes |
Each case in the kit comes with its instructions to be adapted and its point of vigilance.

7. Frequently Asked Questions
Can Copilot create a PowerPoint presentation from a Word document?
Yes. In the Copilot pane of PowerPoint, attach the document using the + button, then "Add Working Content," specify the audience and the number of slides. Copilot will use the document's structure and figures; review each slide before presenting.
How can I ensure that Copilot adheres to the graphic charter in PowerPoint?
The organization must prepare a template with various sample slides and add it to a brand kit in the Microsoft Copilot application. The user then selects the brand using the + button and then "Select a brand." Otherwise, Copilot applies its own style.
How can I prevent Copilot from inventing things in Word?
Cite your sources using the / key and add "based solely on" the source in the instructions. Then reread the text with the source open alongside: Copilot may add an interpretation not found in the document.
Why is the text added by Copilot underlined in red?
The inserted text is sometimes marked in a language other than French. Select it, click on the language in the status bar, and choose French (France).
Do I need a license for Copilot in Word and PowerPoint?
Yes, the Copilot feature in documents requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, which many call "Copilot Premium." Since April 15, 2026, in organizations with more than 2,000 users, Word and PowerPoint no longer offer this feature to unlicensed accounts.
Why don't I have the Copilot button?
Look for the Copilot icon in the bottom right corner of the window. If not, check in File, then Account, that you are logged in with the work account that holds the license, click Update License, and restart. The six-month Enterprise Channel does not include Copilot: the IT department can upgrade the workstation to the monthly channel. In the meantime, the web version remains a backup solution.
Is the kit free?
Yes. The Word document and Excel workbook are free, in exchange for a professional email address which will only be used to send you the download link. No unsolicited emails.
