Copilot Cowork 10 use cases per profession, with delegations to copy
Article published on October 27, 2026, based on Microsoft's Copilot documentation Cowork (Microsoft Learn, Microsoft adoption site, "Accelerated Copilot Training" guide) Cowork ") and what we observe in training. The cases are typical, anonymized exercises, not guaranteed results. Microsoft is evolving Cowork In waves: check the functions available on your tenant.
What is Copilot used for? CoworkSpecifically? To entrust Microsoft 365 Copilot with a result rather than a question: prepare a management committee, put together a brief for a client meeting, welcome a new arrival, compare three supplier offers. Cowork It proposes a plan, gathers context from your emails, meetings, Teams conversations, and OneDrive or SharePoint files, generates Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents, and then pauses to ask for your approval before sending. If you're new to the tool, start with our Copilot Getting Started Guide Cowork : prerequisites, first task, approvals and costs.
Here are ten tasks that teams with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license (the one many companies call Copilot Premium) can delegate right now, categorized by profession. For each task, the same table applies: what Cowork Go and find out what it produces, what it asks of you before acting, the delegation to copy, and the trap we see most often. Delegations are written to be copied verbatim, replacing the folder names and dates with your own.
Before choosing a case: four questions
A spot Cowork It consumes Copilot Credits with each execution. A good use case must therefore justify the delegation, not just allow it. Ask yourself four questions.
- Does the work require multiple steps and multiple sources? Summarizing an email or rewriting a paragraph is possible with Copilot in Outlook or Word. Cowork It makes sense when you need to combine emails, a meeting, a binder and a template to produce several related deliverables.
- Are the sources located in Microsoft 365? Cowork It reads what's in your email, calendar, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint, as well as business systems connected by your IT department via connectors or plugins. A file left on your computer's desktop is invisible to it.
- Can the result be verified in a few minutes? If proofreading takes as much time as the work itself, delegation saves nothing.
- Is the data legally allowed to be processed in this way? Cowork It works with your access rights and inherits sensitivity labels, but certain data (employee files containing names, information under confidentiality agreements, classified elements) remain outside the scope of delegation according to your charter. This is a crucial issue that must be resolved before the first case arises.
To find out when to use Copilot in apps, Copilot Chat or CoworkThe table in our getting started guide is sufficient. For the difference between the free version and the license, see Copilot Chat or Microsoft 365 Copilot.

1. Prepare a management committee from start to finish
that Cowork Go get it: the minutes of the last committee meeting, the emails exchanged since with the directors, the documents filed on the committee's SharePoint site, the dashboards for the month. What it produces: the agenda, a presentation in the company model, a one-page summary note per topic and the list of expected decisions. What he is asking you: your agreement on the plan, then on the invitation and the sending of preparatory documents.
Prepare for the November 12th steering committee meeting. Start with the minutes from the October meeting, the emails exchanged with committee members since then, and the documents on the Steering Committee SharePoint site. Create the agenda, a presentation of no more than fifteen slides using our template, a one-page note for each topic, and the list of decisions to be submitted. First, show me the plan and the topics you've selected. Then, prepare the invitation and the email to send the documents, but don't send anything yet.
The trap : let Cowork Choose the topics. Focus on what comes up most often in the discussions, not necessarily what matters most. Validate the list of topics at the outline stage; that's where the task is won. A guided version of this case study is available in our library. prepare a management committee with Cowork.
2. Receive the weekly update every Monday
that Cowork Go get it: your weekly agenda, unprocessed emails waiting for you, Teams threads where you are mentioned, deadlines for shared documents. What it produces: a one-page summary, meetings to prepare with their documents, scheduling conflicts and proposed time slots for concentration. What he is asking you: nothing as long as he only writes to you; your agreement as soon as he proposes to decline or reschedule a meeting.
Every Monday at 7:30 a.m., prepare my weekly briefing: the five issues requiring a decision from me, the meetings to prepare for with the documents to read, emails that are more than three days old and have gone unanswered, and any conflicts in my schedule. Suggest two two-hour slots without meetings. Send everything to me in a single message, to me only.
The trap : A summary that's too long, which no one reads after three weeks. Set a short format in the instructions, and configure the scheduled task in Tasks, then Automations, to pause it during holidays. This is the ideal scenario for discovering automation: the stakes are low and you're the only recipient.
Sales and customer relations
3. Be ready for a client appointment within the hour
that Cowork Go get it: the latest exchanges with the client, the latest proposal sent, Teams meeting minutes, and the account history in the CRM if your IT department has connected it. What it produces: a one-page brief (where the relationship stands, what has been promised, the sensitive points, the likely questions) and three questions to ask to move the matter forward. What he is asking you: Nothing, as long as he's only preparing one document for you.
I have a meeting with the purchasing department of our client Delta at 14 PM. Bring me up to speed: review our email exchanges from the last three months, the proposal sent in September, and the minutes of our Teams meetings with them. Prepare a one-page brief: the current state of the relationship, commitments made on our end, points of contention, questions they are likely to ask, and three questions to ask them to move forward. Include the email or document from which each piece of information originates.
The trap : A brief that mixes what the client said with what your team assumed. Requiring the source of each piece of information solves the problem and allows you to verify any point that surprises you with a single click.
4. Review the sales pipeline
that Cowork Go get it: the opportunities open in Dynamics 365 Sales or in the Excel export of your CRM, and the latest exchanges on each deal. What it produces: a binder of risky cases (no contact for three weeks, signature date passed, amount changed), a one-page presentation for the sales meeting and draft follow-up messages. What he is asking you: Your agreement before each reminder, recipient by recipient.
Review my pipeline using the T4 Pipeline export in my OneDrive. Flag deals that haven't been exchanged in over three weeks, those with an overdue closing date, and those where the value has decreased. For each deal, summarize the last email exchange. Create a binder with these deals, a summary slide for Thursday's sales meeting, and a draft follow-up for the five most important deals. Don't send me anything without approval.
The trap : Follow-ups that are all similar. In the instructions, give two examples of follow-ups that worked, and ask Cowork to rely on the last actual exchange with each interlocutor.
Human Resources
5. Prepare for the arrival of a new employee
that Cowork Go get it: the job description, the organizational chart, the welcome booklet and the team's reference documents in SharePoint, the manager's agenda and the agenda of people to meet. What it produces: a pre-arrival checklist (access, equipment, badge), the program for the first two weeks, a reading folder in OneDrive, the welcome email and invitations to meetings. What he is asking you: Your agreement before the welcome email and before each invitation.
Prepare for the arrival of our new management controller, who starts on November 3rd. Start with the job description and the welcome booklet from the HR SharePoint site. Create a checklist of access and equipment requests, a schedule for her first two weeks, a reading list with the ten most relevant documents for her role, and a warm welcome email. Schedule thirty-minute meetings with the six key people, checking their calendars. Show me everything before sending anything.
The trap : An identical program for all workstations. Once the first program has been reviewed and corrected, transform it into a reusable skill: Cowork We will use it as a template for the next recruitment. A guided version is available in our library. build a personalized integration path.
6. Summarize an internal survey
that Cowork Go get it: the Excel export of the responses, previously anonymized, and the results of the previous survey. What it produces: a thematic analysis of open-ended responses, gaps by population, representative quotes, a presentation for the management committee and a note for staff representatives. What he is asking you: Your validation of the themes before the drafting of the deliverables.
Analyze the anonymized responses from the 2026 engagement survey (file "Anonymous-2026-Survey" in the HR SharePoint site) and compare them with the 2025 survey from the same folder. Identify the eight main themes of the open-ended responses, including the number of responses and two citations per theme. Show the differences between sites and between managers and non-managers. First, provide me with a list of themes. After approval, produce a ten-slide presentation and a two-page report.
The trap : entrust a file that still allows for the identification of respondents, for example by cross-referencing site, seniority, and position within a small team. Anonymization is performed beforehand. Coworkand the small groups regroup before the analysis.
Finance
7. Explain the discrepancies between budget and actual results
that Cowork Go get it: the budget binder, the extraction of actual results and the comments from budget managers received by email. What it produces: a binder of discrepancies above the set threshold, an initial explanation of each discrepancy linked to its source, the commentary note for the financial management and the list of discrepancies that remained unexplained. What he is asking you: your agreement before writing to the managers to obtain the missing explanations.
Prepare the budget vs. actual analysis for the third quarter using the Budget-2026 and Actual-T3 files from the Management Control SharePoint site. List variances exceeding 5% and €20,000 per cost center. For each variance, find an explanation in emails received from budget managers since July and cite the email. Produce a variance spreadsheet, a two-page memo for the finance department, and a list of variances without explanation, along with a draft email for each manager involved.
The trap : Plausible but fabricated explanations. An explanation without a source email should be classified as "to be confirmed," never presented as fact. Include this in the instructions, and check the workbook totals before any distribution. For manipulations within the workbook itself, see also Copilot in Excel: The Step-by-Step Guide.
Marketing and communication
8. Roll out a launch across all channels
that Cowork Go get it: the launch brief, the editorial charter, two or three past pieces of content deemed successful and the company's PowerPoint template. What it produces: posts for each network, a newsletter, the internal message for Teams, a presentation for salespeople and the publication schedule. What he is asking you: Your agreement is required before any publication in a Teams channel.
Based on the Horizon offer launch brief and our editorial guidelines (Marketing/Launches folder), develop the following launch materials: five LinkedIn posts, a customer newsletter, a message for the Teams News channel, a six-slide presentation for sales representatives using our template, and a three-week publication schedule. Draw inspiration from the tone of the two 2026 launches, which are also in the same folder. First, propose three different approaches; I will choose one.
The trap : A tone that varies from one channel to another. Without a written charter, each deliverable starts from scratch. With one, corrections are made once, either in the instructions or in a skill, and never again in the deliverables.
Project management
9. Transform a Teams meeting into a summary and follow-up actions.
that Cowork Go get it: the transcript and summary of the Teams meeting, the documents presented and the project action plan table. What it produces: the report in project format, the updated action table with responsible party and deadline, and a follow-up message per responsible party. What he is asking you: Your agreement before the report is published and before each reminder.
Based on the transcript of this morning's Teams team meeting, draft the meeting minutes in the Atlas project template (Atlas/Governance folder): decisions, open items, action items with responsible party and deadline. Update the Actions-Atlas workbook, marking what is new, what is closed, and what is overdue. Prepare a Teams message for each responsible party outlining their action items. Show me the meeting minutes and messages before publishing them.
The trap : a meeting without a transcript. Cowork It can only summarize what has been recorded: transcription must be enabled by the organizer. For Teams settings, see Copilot in Teams: A Step-by-Step GuideFor project managers, the library also offers a mission Cowork portfolio review projects.
Purchasing
10. Compare supplier offers
that Cowork Go get it: the specifications, the offers received in PDF format in the consultation file and the criteria grid. What it produces: a comparative table criterion by criterion with the extract of the offer which justifies each note, the list of points not covered, the clarification questions for each supplier and a recommendation note. What he is asking you: Your agreement before sending the questions to the suppliers.
Compare the three bids received for the 2027 Maintenance tender (Purchasing/Tenders/Maintenance-2027 folder) using the Maintenance Criteria grid in the same folder. For each criterion, rate each bid and cite the passage that justifies the rating. List the specifications requirements that none of the bids cover. Prepare clarifying questions for each supplier and a two-page recommendation note. Do not send any questions without my approval.
The trap : Vague criteria. "Competitive price" or "good responsiveness" mean nothing until they are written in the grid with their corresponding rating. The more precise the grid, the more reliable the comparison, and the recommendation remains with the buyer.
Where to begin?
These ten cases vary in difficulty. The table below classifies them according to what they require to function.
| Cas | Difficulty | What you need to have | Automatable |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2. Weekly Update | Easy | Nothing more than the license | Yes, planned task |
| 3. Client meeting | Easy | Exchanges and proposals in Outlook and SharePoint | No |
| 9. Meeting towards action | Easy | Teams transcription enabled | Yes, after each project meeting |
| 5. New arrival | Medium | Welcome booklet and up-to-date documents | No, but it can be transformed into a skill. |
| 8. Multichannel launch | Medium | Written editorial guidelines, PowerPoint template | No |
| 1. Management Committee | Medium | Committee's SharePoint site kept up to date | Partially |
| 10. Supplier Offers | Medium | Criteria grid with scoring system | No |
| 6. Internal investigation | Requiring | Data anonymized upstream | No |
| 7. Budget vs. Actual | Requiring | Files in the same format every quarter | Yes, once the setpoint has stabilized |
| 4. Pipeline Review | Requiring | CRM connected or clean export | Yes, every week |
Start with an easy case, where you're the sole recipient, on a task you know well enough to assess the outcome in five minutes. The weekly update and the client meeting fulfill these three conditions. Then move on to cases that produce deliverables for others, and only then to automations that write to other people.
What these cases have in common
The ten delegations follow the same structure, and it is this that determines the quality of the result far more than the AI model used.
- A result described precisely: What deliverables, for whom, by when, in what format?
- Sources named: a folder, a file, a period of emails. Leave Cowork Searching through all the messages costs more credits and gives a less accurate result.
- A stopping point before taking action: "Show me the plan first," "Don't send me anything without approval." Cowork It requires approval before sending anyway, but an explicit instruction avoids back and forth.
- The requirement for sources: Citing the email or document from which each piece of information comes makes reviewing quick and reveals what has been deduced rather than read.
When a delegation comes up weekly or monthly, turn it into a skill: a text file stored in OneDrive that describes your approach, and that Cowork applies to each new task. The format is the same as Claude's skills, and our 10 skills ready to install show their structure.
What delegation does not replace
Three things remain human in each of these cases. First, the responsibility for the deliverable: the memo to the management committee or the purchase recommendation is signed by a person who must be able to defend it. Second, the unwritten context: what the client said on the phone, what the committee expects without explicitly stating it, what has already been tried and abandoned. Finally, the judgment on quality: Cowork It's the professional who quickly produces a decent deliverable; it's the professional who makes it accurate. That's precisely why teams progress faster when they practice on their own projects, as in our Copilot training Cowork in company, than on generic examples.
F.A.Q
What are the best use cases for Copilot? Cowork To start with?
Those documents that are only for you and that you can review in a few minutes: the weekly update, the preparation for a client meeting, the minutes of a Teams meeting. They allow you to learn how to write a delegation without the risk of sending anything to others.
Copilot Cowork Can it use data from our CRM or ERP?
Yes, if your IT department has connected these systems via connectors or plugins authorized within the organization. Microsoft cites Dynamics 365 Sales as an example for pipeline review, and partner plugins like monday.com, Miro, or Harvey. Otherwise, an Excel export uploaded to OneDrive or SharePoint works perfectly well.
Do these cases also work with Claude? Cowork ?
The delegation logic is the same, but the environment differs: Copilot Cowork works in Microsoft 365, with its governance, while Claude Cowork It connects to Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or Slack and can read folders on your computer. See our article Copilot Cowork or Claude Cowork and the 10 Use Cases for Claude Cowork by job.
How much does a Copilot task cost? Cowork ?
Each task consumes Copilot Credits, billed in addition to the license, depending on the model used, the amount of context read, the number of tools called, and the duration. Target sources and reserve Cowork Breaking down the work into several stages are two key strategies for reducing costs. Details are available in our... quick start guide.
